Chisholm Trail Fest - May 5-6-7 Volunteer Opportunities Abound!

As an organization, the Chamber of Commerce works in the interest of our business community. One of the ways we do this is through tourism and events; attracting visitors and generating commerce in our town. The upcoming Chisholm Trail Festival will be promoting our fair city's history on the 150 year old Chisholm Trail while helping our downtown thrive. Chamber members, other organizations, and volunteerism have been unbelievably generous in bringing together a very special and entertaining celebration this May 5-7. We would love to have any and all organizations join the fun!
Last week, several of the Chisholm Trail Fest events were mentioned. Also in the works is a 6-Shooter 5K Race at 11am for teams of six, starting and finishing downtown near the gazebo. At High Noon, the Proclamation Exchange will be well attended by visitors, especially the Kansas Chisholm Trail 150 group that is promoting all CT celebrations in our state. Our location on the trail will bring Kansas and Oklahoma together to have a ceremonial hand-off, which will be immediately followed by The Gangs of Old West Caldwell, a street wide commotion pitting gangs of lawmen vs gunmen, saloon girls vs townfolk. Want to help with any of these events? Let us know, we'd love to have more hands. Want to help with sound and microphones? We can use you!
The Border Queen Bellas saloon girls will be joined by both troupes of Can Can girls of old town Wichita to perform the Longest Can Can line in Border Queen History II (the first was in 2011). Want to be a saloon girl? Contact Taylor Claar or myself. Want to dress as a dancing girl but can't dance? We have just the place for you, too!
The Wild West Women character portrayals will be performing on a stoop in front of the Opera House, as well as up in the Roost and on the stage at 1st & Chisholm all day long. Many volunteers are coming together to learn and rehearse their routines. The Roost has received a nice donation from Rod Cook to help expand this upstairs living museum area (this is the upstairs portion of the museum). Want to help transform this new area to a Western Cowboy room? Do you have construction skills, design skills, or just good ol' elbow grease? Please contact Kathy Risley. Work will start immediately.
Would you like to help out with the travelling exhibit housed in the Opera House? Monitors will be needed to keep the Opera House open for public viewing. This will be from May 5-June 27. Please contact the Caldwell Historical Society and sign up to sit.
Would you like to help out in the Cow Camp arena? We will need volunteers to take money and monitor booths and activity areas. We'll need someone at the Stagecoach station, calf roping machine, mechanical bull, etc. Please let us know if you can give a couple of hours of your time. The Cow Camp hours will be 10am-6pm.
Do you make cool stuff and want to sell it in the Artisan & Craft Bazaar? Contact Luwanna Guinn. Do you have Chisholm Trail or Old West items you want to display? Contact Courtney Rohrbaugh. Are you artsy? The Caldwell Art Brigade needs help setting up a Western Art Show. Contact Brooke Kuehny. So far, the Czech Chapter, Sumner County Fair, Bluejay Backers, UMYF, and Historical Society have signed up for events. Do you have a group or organization that wants to setup a booth or chair an event? Please, please let us know, we need your help.
The Poker Tourney will take you back in time at Joe B's Saloon & Gaming Parlor (aka back room) with the tin ceiling and wood floors. Want to help with this event? Contact Bryan Nispel. All players and helpers will be asked to dress cowboy or Old West attire.
The street dance, stage setup, Czech Chapter Beer Garden area and entry gate will all need helping hands. Want to grab a friend, dress Old West, and lend a hand? Have a killer outfit and want to pass out Schedules of Event flyers, sell buttons and t-shirts at our Chamber General Store? We need you!
One of the less talked about areas of need is lodging. Our local lodging options have filled quickly. Have an extra room, an extra house? Join Airbnb or another online resource to rent out your house or room and make a buck or two.
Are you a die hard historian that would like to guide tours? We need you and your expertise to put together a limited seat tour of our actual ruts and cattle swells in nearby pastures.
Are you musically talented and want to debut your tunes in the gazebo for an hour or so? We'd love to have you. Are you a playlist junkie? We'd love to have you put together old saloon music playlists for the poker tourney as well as on the Main Street loudspeakers between acts.
Are you full of fantastic ideas and know how to make them happen? Please feel free to attend the weekly committee meetings every Friday noon at KanOkla. We have a great group that are already working hard behind the scenes, but would love to share the fun. Let's harness that pioneer spirit of the Old West and make Caldwell "John Wayne cool"!
